Bradley Resigns from Council, Hill Expresses Interest in Vacancy

La Grange Ward 3 Councilwoman Deborah Bradley submitted a letter of resignation from the Council on Friday, Feb. 15. Her term ends in 2020. The Council is expected to accept her resignation at the meeting on Monday, Feb. 25.

The City charter requires the Council to select someone to temporarily replace her within 30 days. A special election to fill the remainder of her term will be held on May 4.

The City had not announced Bradley’s resignation or that the Council would appoint someone to fill her position until the Record called City Manager Shawn Raborn and asked about it last Thursday. Yet one citizen of Ward 3, Buster Hill, has already sent the City a letter expressing his interest in taking the appointment, Raborn reported.

Raborn said the Council would likely appoint Bradley’s temporary replacement at the first meeting in March. Nothing in the City charter prohibits an appointed council person from running in the subsequent special election.
