After winning four of five games at their home tournament last week, the La Grange softball team now has a 9-4 record this season.

“It’s been good,” said firstyear Lady Leps head coach Amanda Arlund. “I’ve been very impressed with how the girls have handled everything.”

The head coaching spot at her alma mater (Arlund is a 2002 grad of LHS) was a dream job she said, and a natural progression after being the team’s assistant coach the last two years.

“The players know our expectations, so that’s been an easy smooth transition. They’ve made it easy,” Arlund said. “I wanted to come back and coach here because I had a great experience and I wanted to create that for others.”

The Lady Leps’ runner-up finish in the tournament was a mix of close games and blowouts for the La Grange girls.

The tourney began with a 4-2 win over Cedar Creek as Abbey Weyand pitched a complete game six-hitter and Aly Trlicek and Lauren Little each had two hits.

Rain impacted the Thursday night game, but La Grange was back at it Friday beating Ganado 18-0 in thee innings as Mikaylee Supak pitched a perfect game with seven strikeouts.

“It’s a good feeling,” Supak said of throwing a perfect game. “Even if they would have hit the ball, my team would have had my back ... We’ve had a good season so far, but we still have work to do.”

Alyssa DelaRosa had two hits in that game against Ganado and Becca Heinrich and Kailee Jones had triples and Alaney Roe hit a double.

Friday night the Lady Leps continued the hit parade, pounding Crockett 12-1. Supak pitched a complete game onehitter and Trlicek hit a homer. Natalie Blackwell hit a triple and Connor Menefee hit a double.

Saturday morning was La Grange’s only loss of the tournament as Gregory-Portland beat the Lady Leps 6-3. Emma Fitzpatrick, Lauren Little and Connor Menefee all had two hits for La Grange in that game.

La Grange beat Needville 10-4 in their final game of the tournament. Weyand pitched a complete game three-hitter. Roe hit a homer and Kailee Jones had four hits in that game. Fitzpatrick had three hits.

DelaRosa and Kailee Jones were named all-tournament from La Grange.

The Lady Leps return to action at the Lamar Consolidated Tournament this weekend.
