Funeral services for Janie Lange, 78, of Waldeck, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 at Waldeck Lutheran Church in Waldeck with Rev. David Tinker officiating. Burial followed in the Waldeck Cemetery.

Janie Angeline (Ruether) Lange was born on June 20, 1940 in Fayetteville, the daughter of Jerome Adolph Ruether and Angeline Victoria (Mascheck) Ruether. Janie was raised in the Catholic church and was baptized and confirmed in Fayetteville. She married Emmit Lange on April 5, 1959 at Waldeck Lutheran Church in Waldeck. Janie worked at the Invader Boat Factory in Giddings before becoming the bookkeeper for Brands Brangus Ranch in Waldeck. The most important job that Janie felt she had was to be a loving and devoted homemaker to her family. Not only did she take care of all the household responsibilities, she also ran their personal ranch and took care of their cattle and bailed hay while Emmit was working. Even as busy as she was, she always made sure she had lunch ready for Emmit every day. When not working, Janie enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, cane pole fishing, and of course gardening. Janie’s love of gardening was evident in her canning of hundreds of quarts of vegetables and fruits. Her pickles were famous, and many quarts found their way all the way to Houston. She was an active member of Waldeck Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Memorial Guild. When the church would host ice cream socials, Janie would always bring a large supply for everyone to enjoy.

Janie passed away the morning of Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in College Station.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Angeline Ruether; her infant brother, Henry Ruether; her sister, Angeline Welch; and her beloved motherin-law and father-in-law, Gus and Tillie Lange.
