Oppermann

Glennie (Eilers) Oppermann, 102, of La Grange, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

Glennie was born in Haw Creek on April 16, 1916, the daughter of Henry F. and Frieda (Schmidt) Eilers. She married Arthur Henry Oppermann on June 23, 1938 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Warrenton.

Glennie was a life-long member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a regular member of St. Paul’s Quilting Group. Glennie was a storyteller, recalling all of her 102 year history. She was an avid sports fan; the Houston Astros were her favorite. She attended Oldenburg School where she played basketball for the Oldenburg Owl’s.

She worked as a homemaker taking care of her family. Glennie loved taking care of her garden, chickens, cooking and baking for her family, as well as quilting.

Glennie is survived by granddaughter, Michelle Martin and husband, Scott; grandson-in-law, David Dockery and his fiancé, Dawn Sand; great grandchildren: Amanda Dittert and husband, Saxon; Tyler Dockery and wife, Charity; Ryan Dockery and wife, Breann; and great-great grandchildren, Brooks, Ava, Zoey, Owen, and Emmitt arriving in June.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Oppermann; daughter, Barbara Fulton and friend Jack Pittman, son, Fred Oppermann; daughter-in-law Delores Oppermann; granddaughter, Melissa Dockery; two brothers: Barney and Gilbert Eilers; two sisters-inlaw: Joyce and Nettie Eilers.

Visitation was held prior to the funeral service on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange. Funeral services followed beginning at 3 p.m. with burial at La Grange City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fred Oppermann Scholarship Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
