Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K-9 partner Kolt recorded a big methamphetamine bust on Interstate 10 Thursday.

Korenek's report stated that Thuman and Kolt were patroling Interstate 10 near the 660 mile marker around 9:21 p.m. when Thumann pulled over a Chevy Silverado for a traffic violation.

"After speaking with the driver, Sgt. Thumann observed many criminal indicators of narcotics trafficking," the report stated. "Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle."

Thumann deployed Kolt to conduct an exterior sweep. Korenek said Thumann observed Kolt alert to the presence of illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle. A search revealed 23 kilograms of methamphetamines with a street value of $2.3 million. The drugs were located in compartments built into the seats.

The driver, Eugenio Arnoldo Faz Velazco, 45 of Mexico, was arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.
