Koehl
Emil J. Koehl, 72 of Ellinger passed doing what he loved on family property on Friday, April 5, 2019.
Emil was born in Columbus on July 17, 1946. He was the son of Larkin and Leona (Pecashek) Koehl. He attended Ellinger School before transferring to La Grange where he graduated from high school in 1964. He worked various jobs before settling in his life long career—owning his own business. He worked on the railroad, gravel pit, sewer plant construction, portable buildings and at other Ellinger businesses.
In 1971 he joined in a partnership building portable buildings which led to him becoming the sole owner in 1975. The business was named Koehl’s Portable Buildings and Materials which he operated until his death. In this occupation he did all sorts of jobs for the locals.
Emil married Lucille Moellenberg on June 1, 1980 in Giddings. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Woodman of the World, NRA, Ellinger Herman Sons and the Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department. His hobbies included farming, ranching, hunting, fishing, planting a garden, playing cards and dice, crabbing at the beach, and seeing new places. He was interested in history and loved nature.
He is survived by Lucille; daughter, Laura Brugger and husband Chris; sons, Wayne Kocian and EJ Koehl; grandchildren, Koltin and Kasen Kocian and Brylee Brugger, all from Ellinger. He is also survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Margaret Moellenberg of Houston and niece Julie Cisneros and nephew Jason Moellenberg and their families and numerous cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edgar and Elsie Moellenberg.
Visitation was held Monday, April 8, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinger with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. with the funeral at 4 p.m. at the church under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers were JR Koehl, John Mikulenka, John Divin, Jason Moellenberg, Bo Smidovec, and Ronnie Poncik.
