Petition Granted by County, Hospital Vote Set for June

The proposal to establish a hospital taxing district in Fayette County will be headed to a vote in June.

St. Mark’s Hospital Board vice-chairman Michael Corker filed the petition on Friday, April 5. It was signed by about 160 Fayette County citizens. Last Thursday, April 12, County Commissioners granted the petition and ordered an election to be held on Thursday, June 13.

“What we are directed to do by state code is that if we have a petition that’s submitted in proper form, this court has to issue an election order,” said County Judge Joe Weber at Thursday’s meeting. “Your commissioners court is not voting to impose a tax or to impose a hospital district.”
