Retired Teachers Visit State Capitol During Convention

On April 1 and 2, retired teachers from District 13 attended TRTA’s 66th Annual Convention in Austin on April 3, they attended “Day at the Capitol”. Representing Fayette County were delegates Melanie Mica (President), Debbie Morrill and Jeanne Wetjen. In addition to the delegates, Sandra Aschenbeck, Karen Fitch, Linda Oltmann, attended Day at the Capitol. The theme for the convention was, “Raise the Base,” with emphasis on the following to legislators: Improved funding for the TRS Pension Plan, a meaningful benefit increase for retirees, improved funding for TRS-Care, and provisions that make it easier for retirees to return to work.

TRTA has worked with numerous senators and representatives on a variety of bills filed during the legislative session to address the urgent needs of retired educators, included those listed above.
