Funeral services for James Krchnak, 77, of Giddings, were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings with Father James Olnhausen officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

James Daniel Krchnak was born on May 24, 1941 in Sealy to Frank Vaclav Krchnak and Lillian Mary Jane (Holub) Krchnak. He graduated from Smithville High School and attended Nixon-Clay Business College in Austin.

James was united in marriage to Sylvia Schmidt on September 9, 1961 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Smithville, Texas. He worked as a paint salesman for many years. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings where he served as an usher and had been on the Parish Council for 20 years. James was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the KJT. He had also served on the Giddings I.S.D. School Board, and as a director of Citizen’s State Bank in Giddings which later became Bank of the West. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, ranching, traveling and spending time on the coast.

James passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian Krchnak; one brother, David Krchnak and his parents-in-law, Martin and Mamie Schmidt.

James is survived by his wife, Sylvia Krchnak of Giddings; his three children, Kent Krchnak of Giddings, Scott Krchnak and his wife, Brandy of Giddings, and Kelly Urban and her husband, Chris of La Grange; four grandchildren, Hannah Krchnak of San Antonio, Jacob Krchnak of Nacogdoches, Colby Urban of La Grange, and Laney Urban of La Grange; one sister, Glory Novosad and her husband, Frank of Kingwood; one brother, Jerry Krchnak of Smithville; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Krchnak of Deer Park; one brother-inlaw, Mike Schmidt and his wife, Marilyn of Giddings; several nieces and nephews, and his best friend, his dog, “Boy”.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Krchank, Colby Urban, Lawrence Urban, Tom Jones, Alvin Zimmerhanzel, Cecil Walther, Johnny Vrabel and Neal Novosad.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
