RTC Baseball Smashes Bartlett to Advance to Regional Finals

In a dominating doubleheader, the Round Top-Carmine baseball team swept Bartlett by a combined 22-0 score Thursday in Manor as the Cubs stormed their way into the 1A regional finals.

RTC beat Bartlett 10-0 in Game 1 and then 12-0 in Game 2. Now the Cubs advance to play D’Hanis (19-4) in a bestof-three regional final. That series will begin Thursday at 7 p.m. in Marion. Game 2 will be Saturday at noon in Marion, with a third game to follow if necessary.

The Cubs won Game 1, led by a complete game fourhit, nine-strikeout shutout by Ryker Goehring, who also had two hits himself, including a triple and scored three runs and drove in two.

Ethan Schobel had three hits, including a home run and drove in four and scored twice in that series opener. Aidan Wager hit a triple and drove in three runs and scored two. Jason Sotebier, Alex Pieper and Will Moore also had hits for the Cubs and Bryan Lunbeck score two runs.

In Game 2, it was Pieper’s turn to hurl a complete game shutout, this one a seven-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Offensively in that game, the Cubs were led by Pieper, Moore, Schobel amd Kaben Lunbeck, who each had two hits. Schobel drove in three runs, and Wagner and Sotebier each drove in two. Goehring scored three runs in that game. Kevin Polasek, Wagner, Schobel and Sotebier all hit doubles.

RTC’s record is now 16-10.

Of the Cubs’ five playoff games this season, they have held their opponents scoreless in four of them.
