Approximately 850 Attend First Ever Recital for Schulenburg’s On Pointe Studio
On Pointe Dance Studio in Schulenburg held its first recital on Sunday, May 20. The recital was supposed to take place at the Schulenburg Civic Center, but the event sold out 30 minutes after tickets went on sale.
Studio owner and dance instructor Nina Gorman arranged to hold the event at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Performing Arts Center in Bastrop. A caravan of folks from Schulenburg headed to Bastrop for the event. Approximately 850 people attended, including Schulenburg Mayor Elaine Kocian and City Administrator Tami Blaschke-Walker, who praised the incredible turnout in Bastrop while speaking at the City Council meeting the following day.
“The City of Bastrop should have been real happy with the number of people we brought to their town,” Walker said at the meeting.
Nina Gorman reported that 112 of her students performed in the recital.
Nina and her husband Todd purchased the old Stanzel Model Airplane Factory in Schulenburg over a year ago. The Gormans lost their home in Houston to Hurricane Harvey and moved to Schulenburg in 2017. Todd is using most of old Stanzel property to expand his Houston-based laundry business, Gorman Cleaners.
Nina, a classically-trained ballerina, converted an old factory building at the corner of US 77 and South Street into a dance studio and has been offering classes there since the beginning of the school year.
