More than 50 law enforcement officers from around the area stood in for their fallen comrade David Furrh at his daughter’s graduation ceremony last week in Moulton.

Furrh died from a gunshot wound while attempting to serve a search warrant in Luling on December 5, 2000. His daughter, Terri, was just three months old at the time. She graduated from Moulton High School on Friday, May 17.

Moulton Police Chief Daniel Beyer said he put out a call to fellow officers a few days before the graduation. Last Friday, 53 officers showed up at the Moulton High School Gymnasium. They formed a line from one end of the basketball court to the other as Furrh walked across the stage.

Among those officers was Fayette County Deputy C.J. Lehmann, who lost his eyesight after suffering a shotgun wound to his face last November while attempting to serve an arrest warrant. Fayette County Deputy Mark Zimmermann, who also serves as the Mayor of Moulton, attended as well.

“All of those officers know what it means to make the ultimate sacrifice,” Beyer said. “Her daddy was a good officer and a good guy. This was about taking care of our own.”

Furrh plans to attend Texas State University to study criminal justice. Capt. Patrick Cochran of the Texas State University Police Department presented her with a welcome gift from the university. Etta Moore, executive director of the 100 Club of Central Texas, presented Furrh with a scholarship at the ceremony as well.
