Kram Files Lawsuit Against City of Flatonia for Wrongful Termination

Former Flatonia Police Chief Perry Kram filed a lawsuit last week against the City of Flatonia for wrongful termination. Kram seeks up to $1 million in back pay and damages to his reputation.

The City fired Kram on April 23 after a three-month investigation into allegations made against him by officers in his department. The Record obtained a copy of the City’s investigative report into the allegations on May 28 through an open records request.

In the report, City Manager Mark McLaughlin stated that he received 39 allegations of misconduct by Kram. McLaughlin said that 16 of the allegations were credible and warranted an investigation. McLaughlin stated that he and City Attorney Angela Beck determined that eight of the allegations were “substantiated with evidence and factual in their occurrence.”
