EMS Has Over 200 Unpaid Accounts From Patients

County Leaders Trying to Help

Fayette County Commissioners discussed at last Thursday’s meeting a proposal that could help the county’s EMS service collect on over 200 delinquent accounts.

Under the current policy, EMS patients from outside of Fayette County receive three monthly bills after the county collects any insurance payments from the patient’s carrier. After three months, the County sends any delinquent accounts to a collection agency.

EMS patients who reside in Fayette County also get three monthly bills after insurance payments, but the County does not send those accounts to collections. Fayette County EMS Director Sharon Muzny said 265 county residents have outstanding balances totaling $210,735.

“Of those, 122 accounts do not have any insurance and have had $0 applied to their account balance,” Muzny told the Record on Thursday.
