Zoch
Funeral services for Adelia Zoch, 96 of Giddings, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. Chris Nietubicz officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.
Adelia was born on Feb. 17, 1923 to Herman and Hulda (Moerbe) Lehmann in Warda, Texas. She was baptized on Feb. 23, 1923 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church by Rev. Gottfried Buchschacher. On April 5, 1936, she was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church by Rev. Paul Eifert. Her confirmation verse was John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben; niemand kommt zum Vater denn durch mich).”
Adelia married Erwin William Zoch on Oct. 11, 1939 in Warda. Their marriage was blessed with four girls: Lovie, Frances, Joyce and Jane. After they were married, they moved to the Zoch family land near Giddings where she did heavy farm work – picked cotton, picked corn, helped with the cattle, and raised chickens and turkeys. She then went to work as a cashier at Wolf’s Grocery and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Lee Memorial Hospital in Giddings.
At the age of 40, she rode the Blinn bus from Giddings to Brenham with all the younger college students to be a part of the nursing program. She soon received her nurses license and began working at Lee Memorial Hospital. Adelia then went to work at Giddings Convalescent Center. She worked there until her husband, Erwin, had a debilitating stroke. She took care of him for four years until his passing on Nov. 6, 1984. After Erwin’s passing, Adelia continued to raise one hundred head of cattle.
