Citizens Give Their Two Cents About Proposed County Tax Increase

A standing-room-only crowd packed the Fayette County Commissioners courtroom last Thursday for the first public hearing on the county’s proposed two cent property tax increase. Most of the citizens who spoke opposed the increase.

The meeting began friendly enough. Word spread before the meeting started that it was County Judge Joe Weber’s birthday. As soon as he entered the room, everyone joined in singing happy birthday.

“Let’s see if you’re still singing after this meeting,” the judge said, which roused a good laugh from the audience.
