Julia Stryk was born on Aug. 10, 1928 to Julius and Katherine (Kubenka) Vyvjala. was called to be with our Lord on Monday, July 29, 2019.

She attented school in Flatonia through the 9th grade. On Aug. 27, 1946 she married Anton Stryk at Sacred hHart Catholic Church in Flatonia, and together they were blessed with two sons, Dennis and Anthony.

Together they settled on a farm west of Engle where she, along with her husband, were involved with farming, and dairy. In the mid 50’s they operated a café in Flatonia for many years. In 1965 she dedcided to attend beauty school in Austin. In 1966, she opened her own beauty salon at her residence where she operated for over 40 years.

She was active in many organizations, such as the Catholic Daughters of America, KJZT Catholic Fraternal Organization, the American Legion Auxillary, and the Altar Society, where she held officer positions in many.

She was an avid bowler, winning numerous trophies for league and tournament championships for many years. She enjoyed sports, attending games of her sons, grand and great grandkids as late as a couple of years ago.

Besides watching sports and wheel of fortune on TV, her favorite channel was “EWTN”. She liked music of all kinds, polkas and waltzes, classic country performed at the country opry and the old music program on the radio. For the last 9 years, she was very fond of the christian music performed by D’Vine Testament.

She was very prideful of her cooking, baking, and canning, for her family and others. She cherished family get togethers, reunions and working and visiting with old friends at the Praha Picnic each year.

She leaves behind son, Dennis (Gail) Stryk of Schulenburg; son, Anthony (Liz) Stryk of Flatonia; grandchildren, Lisa (David) Berckenhoff of Hallettsville, Wendi (Darren) Guentert of Schulenburg, Rodney (Kaylyn) Stryk of Flatonia, Chris Stryk of New Jersey, Jason Stryk of East Bernard; great -grandchildren, Quinn and Shelby Berckenhoff, Blair, Julie, and Jenna Guentert; Brooks and Liv Stryk, Cristin Stryk, Nikki and Mason Crysel; sister; Ann (Ted) Bratton of Flatonia; brothers, Frank Vyvjala of San Antonio, and Daniel (Sharon) Vyvjala of Flatonia; brother-in-law, Charlie Migl of San Antonio; and numerous neices and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son; sisters, Olga Jasek and Dorothy Migl; brother-in-law, Johnnie Jasek; sister-in-law, Josie Vyvjala; and nephew, Brian Sanders.

Funeral Services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Praha. Rosary was held on Thursday, Aug. 1, and the Funeral Mass and burial with Rev. Gabriel Maison as the Celebrant on Friday, Aug. 2, 2019.

Pallbearers were Rodney Stryk, Jason Stryk, Darren Guentert, David Berckenhoff, Quinn Berckenhoff and Brent Bratton.
