Round Table Book Club

The book club met on Tuesday evening and held a discussion on “The Things We Do for Love” by Kristin Hannah led by Marceil Prestridge. Books for the coming year were selected by the group and are: “Next Year in Havana” by Chanel Cleeton for October; November, “Necessary Lies” by Diane Chamberlain; December, “We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves” by Karen Joy Fowler; January, “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean; February, “We Were the Lucky Ones” by Georgia Hunter; March, “The Girl Who Wrote in Silk” by Kelli Estes; April, “Lie To Me” by J. T. Ellison; May, ”True Colors” by Kristin Hannah; and June, “Bel Canto” by Ann Patchett.

Oktoberfest

Faith Lutheran High School of Central Texas will be hosting a family-friendly event on Saurday, October 19, at the Holy Cross Picnic grounds in Warda. Lots of games, activities and food will be available. More details in future columns.

Quilt Block Classes

Quilt block classes have been set for Sunday, September 29, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Zilss Hall in Winchester. Registration is available now and is $35 per class. All supplies to paint a 2x2 quilt block board will be supplied. Registration can be mailed to Zilss Hall at 8945 FM 153 in Winchester. Please indicate on your check which class you are registering to attend.

Barn Board Quilt Trail

Quilt Trail maps are available. You can find them on the patio of Zilss Hall, Murphy’s and The Depot in Winchester. They are also available at the Quilt Museum, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville and La Grange. The trail is self-drive and available at your convenience. You will find the blocks on fences, gates, barns and houses that can be seen from the road. Take some time, have a leisurely lunch in Winchester and drive the trail of Quilt Block Art.

Recycling Containers

WACA has acquired recycling containers for the Winchester community. They are located at the old Zoch garage at Zilss Road and FM 153. You can recycle clean no. 1 and no. 2 plastic, cans, glass, paper and broken-down cardboard.

Community Hall

The painting of the interior of Zilss Hall has been completed and the hall looks very fresh and clean. Anyone wishing to rent should contact (512) 434-0292. Rent is very reasonable and the hall is air conditioned.

The Little Free Library

The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event you would like advertised, please post.

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church

Nate Hill is the Pastor of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, with regular worship service each Sunday at 9 a.m. followed by Sunday School and Bible Study. On Wednesdays, a Bible Class meets at the Education Building at 9:30 a.m. For more information, you may call the office at (979) 242-3444.

FUMC

The Winchester First United Methodist Church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The Rev Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.

Baptist Church
