Bullfrog Population Explosion
Odis and Peggy Pfeiffer’s stock pond in West Point had three adult bullfrogs living in it earlier this year. The trio appear to have had a very successful reproductive season because thousands of juvenile frogs now line the banks.
“We raise sheep out here, and now I guess we’re raising bullfrogs, too,” Odis told the Record on Tuesday.
This plague of sorts struck the Pfeiffer’s pond once before, in 2010.
“Back then it started with five adults in the pond, and then there were a whole lot more young ones,” Peggy said.
“We had a wet spring, and I guess the conditions were just right for them,” she said.
“I don’t think there’s a mosquito on the whole place,” Odis said. “Waterbugs, either.”
