Imelda, Oysters and Hot Sauce: A Cajun Road Trip

Imelda, Oysters and Hot Sauce: A Cajun Road Trip

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary on Tuesday, Sept. 24. To mark the occasion we took off work a few days and drove to our favorite city in the world, New Orleans.

We left Tuesday evening and drove through Tropical Storm Imelda in Houston. We learned the next day that a barge hit the Interstate 10 bridge across the San Jacinto River, which we crossed the night before. The weather was pretty terrible to drive in, but my trusty Jeep Wagoneer got us through Texas.

We spent the first night at a cheap motel next to a truck stop casino in Jennings. It was about 11 p.m. by the time we checked in. Janessa got an itch to feed the slot machines at the sketchy joint next door. The lady working inside asked for our IDs. Janessa just renewed her license and only had a paper ID.
