Skalka
Ella M. Skalka, 99, of Schulenburg, went to her eternal rest Friday, Nov. 1, 2019.
Ella was born March 27, 1920 in Ammannsville to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Behal) Malinek. On July 22, 1943 she was united in marriage to Erwin Leo Skalka and they were married for 65 years until Erwin’s death in April, 2008.
Ella grew up in the Schulenburg area and attended Middle Creek School.
During her younger years, Ella was employed at various local businesses, including Stanzel’s Airplane Factory, Farek’s Variety Store, and Winn’s Department Store. The one place of employment which she is most remembered was preparing delicious lunches at the Bishop Forest lunchroom. She still received compliments from alumni as they fondly remembered her wonderful culinary skills.
She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and St. Rose Alter Society. She always held a very strong love for her family.
She is survived by sons Erwin Skalka, Jr. and wife, Babette, of La Grange; Gary Skalka and wife, Miranda, of Freyburg; grandson Casey Skalka, and wife, Amber of Brenham; and granddaughter Keegan Hudec, and husband, Matthew, of Schulenburg. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Cynthia Meyer/Willie; Sidney Malinek/ Teresa; Betty Halcomb/Jerry; and Jo Ann Stewart/Jim. Several great nieces/great nephews and relatives also survive.
Her husband, parents; brother and sister preceded her in death.
Holy Rosary was recited prior to the Funeral Mass Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. Interment followed in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Schulenburg Regency Nursing Home-Activity Fund, College Place Assisted Living-Activity Fund in Schulenburg, Texas; Hospice of South Texas, 306 North Texana, Hallettsville, Texas 77964; or charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Schwenke Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg.
