Lady Leps Stun Defending State Runner-Ups

The Needville volleyball team won the state title in 2017 and was state runner-ups last year.

But the La Grange Lady Leps made Needville’s stay in the 2019 postseason a short one, knocking off the Lady Jays in a five-set thriller Monday in Sealy in the opening round of the 4A playoffs.

“We knew coming into this that it would not be easy. When you are playing Needville you are not just playing their team you are playing their tradition,” said La Grange head coach Leslie Coltrain, who was celebrating her first playoff victory with the Lady Leps in her second year at the school. “They are coming off back to back state appearances. I knew we were evenly matched, we just had to execute the game plan. I guess we did.”
