Sidney E. Cernoch, 86, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at St. Mark’s Medical Center.

Sidney was born in Dubina on Nov. 3, 1933 the son of the late Katie (Harrigan-Vacek) and John K. Cernoch.

Sidney married Emily (Rainosek) Cernoch on May 8, 1955 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army.

In his early years in O’Quinn he worked on farms, milk routes, and RC Cola routes, and later became a barber. In the 1980’s Sidney owned a bait shop, and was the owner of the beloved Gold N’ Crisp in La Grange for forty-six years. He volunteered with 4-H, JC’s baseball, Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he held a 4th degree Knight designation, and KJT. Sidney enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always went above and beyond to find the perfect place to hunt with his family. Sidney will be remembered by the love for his community and the volunteering

He is survived by his loving wife, Emily; two daughters, Elaine Matthys and her husband, Matt of Austin; Phyllis Chavarria of La Grange; two sons, Daniel Cernoch and his wife, Rose of La Grange; Richard Cernoch and his wife Kathy, of La Grange; brother, Erwin Cernoch and his wife, Anna of Schulenburg; thirteen grandchildren, Nicholas and wife, Megan Cernoch; Michelle and her husband, Dominic Nuosce; Ryan and his wife, Bethany Cernoch; Adam and his wife, Stephanie Chavarria; Reyna and husband, Trey Herrmann; Reece Cernoch; Aaron and his wife, Destiny Chavarria; Diane and her husband, Kenn Kasparek; Melanie and her husband, Klint Farrar; Sam Matthys, Katie Matthys; Katie and her husband, Nich Pape; Kelli and her husband, Zach Robinson; fourteen great-grandchildren: Caleb and Cole Chavarria; Emma and Kate Nuosce; Zoë and Miles Cernoch; Lillyanne, Luke, and Grant Cernoch; Olivia, William, and Baby Farrar; Benjamin Kasparek; and Van Pape; brother-inlaws, Gilbert Rainosek, Larry Rainosek and his wife, Dorothy, Andy Rainosek and his wife, Francoise, and Dennis Rainosek.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Cernoch; sister, Bernice Rohan; infant brother, Eugene Cernoch; son-in-law, Raoul Chavarria, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cernoch.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange. Family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019. Burial followed at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Hostyn.
