State Says $8.9 Million in Hurricane Harvey Buyout Funds Headed to Fayette

Funds (when they arrive) will be used for demolition and purchasing flooded property

Fayette County should finally receive nearly $9 million in long-awaited disaster buyout grant funds from the State. The money will be used to purchase properties in low-lying areas that were damaged or destroyed during the Hurricane Harvey flood in 2017.

Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced last Tuesday that the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved more than $30,234,288 in Hurricane Harvey funds for Caldwell, Fayette, Montgomery, Tyler and Waller counties as well as the City of Wharton to conduct buyout programs.

Of that amount, Fayette County will get $8,913,617.62 that will pay for 46 properties, mostly in the La Grange area.
