Two Multi-Vehicle Pile-Ups Occur Day After Christmas

Two multi-vehicle pileups on SH 71 near Ellinger injured several people on a foggy Thursday morning, Dec. 26.

The first accident happened near the intersection of FM 955 and SH 71 shortly after 7:30 a.m. Trooper Paul Kohleffel with the Texas Highway Patrol investigated the accident. He reported heavy fog that morning.

According to Kohleffel’s report, 43-year-old Alphonse D. Douglas III of San Antonio was driving a white 2001 Kenworth truck-tractor pulling a trailer eastbound on 71. Douglas was stopped at a yield sign at the FM 955 intersection when he attempted to cross the westbound lanes to turn onto FM 955.
