Robert (Bob) Olle passed away on Dec. 18, 2019 after a very courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on July 19, 1939 at the Wagner Hospital in Shiner to Herman and Marie (Malcik) Olle. He lived his entire childhood in Flatonia and after graduating from Flatonia High School in 1957 he enrolled in the San Antonio Junior College where he had a part-time job working for the San Antonio Public Library. After completing his basics in San Antonio he then entered the University of Texas School of Pharmacy and graduated in the spring of 1962. Shortly thereafter he married the love of his life Hattie Svatek on June 16, 1962.

He accepted a full-time job with one of the first discount stores in Austin called “Ace Drug Mart” where he had been employed all during the time he was in pharmacy school. Then in 1965 the Kotzebues in Moulton contacted him asking if he would be interested in moving back to this area and working the drug store in Flatonia. They were contacted by the Flatonia Chamber of Commerce to open up a drug store in their city with the option of purchasing the drug store in Moulton upon their retirement. In June of 1969 the pharmacy was purchased in Moulton and it was called “Olle Pharmacy” and the store remained opened until Aug. 30, 2013 when Bob was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer and his pharmacy career of 52 years abruptly ended.

After moving to the Moulton community Bob was very active in the local Knights of Columbus where he was the recording secretary for a number of years and the Moulton Chamber of Commerce and the St. Joseph Church Council and served on the Moulton Community Clinic Board and was also the pharmacist on staff at the Shady Oak Nursing Home for a number of years.

His hobbies included fishing on the coast and spending time with family and friends at the Port O Conner house. He loved quail hunting and had several great bird dogs and he enjoyed this sport immensely especially hunting quail in the South Texas region.

He is survived by his wife Hattie; son, Stephen Olle of Round Rock; and two sisters, Jeannine Scates of Sugar Land and Judy Byler of La Grange.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brother-inlaws, Bobby Byler and Thomas Scates.

A Rosary was recited on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel and Funeral Mass on Monday. Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton with Gabriel Maison officiating with entombment at the Sacred Heart Catholic Mausoleum in Flatonia.
