Light Liebscher, 87, of La Grange passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.

Light was born on Oct. 20, 1932 the son of Richard Edmund and Friedericka Liebscher.

Light and his two sisters: Lorine and Dorothy and his niece, Nora lived with his parents on a small farm near the Fayetteville Y. Light went to the Oldenburg School through 6th grade and then transferred to Fayetteville School.

Light started working as a plumber in the 1950s for Delwin Tietjen Plumbing in Rutersville. While working as a plumber, he also helped on the farm picking cotton, pulling corn and hauling hay. He oversaw the feeding, cleaning and hog processing on the farm and everyone pitched in to help on those days. He started raising black Brangus cattle and became a rancher feeding and taking care of his cattle, which he loved to do while still working as a plumber during the day.

Nora, his niece said her uncle always mentioned how he had to pull her around in a little red wagon, when she was crying until she fell asleep. When she was in high school they did not have a TV, so Light would ask her “Got your homework done?” and if she did he would take her to their cousin Alvin and Alvera Liebscher’s house across the highway to watch TV to see “The Real McCoy Show” and many other comical shows.

Light married Irene Anders on Aug. 22, 1963 and lived in La Grange for about 40 years until they moved back to the homestead in 2003. During those 40 years Light and Irene went out every weekend with Weldon and Tudy Liebscher to have some beer and a good meal at different restaurants. Irene passed away May 5, 2009. Light continued to work part-time plumbing and raising his cattle.

He enjoyed going out to eat and drinking a few beers with his friend and neighbor, Gary Grayson. If Light was sick Gary and Roy Liebscher would bring him food to eat. He took care of his own cattle with the help of James Anders and Roy Liebscher, until the end of last year when his health started to decline, and he moved into Monument Hill Nursing Center.

Roy will miss seeing the truck coming up the road to his house because, that meant Light was coming for coffee and visiting.

Light liked being outside just driving around, checking his cattle, and driving the country backroads. If you drove around with him he would say, “So and so lives there”, and that he did some plumbing for them. He almost knew everyone who lived in every house in his area. His favorite things to do were, attending the numerous local county fairs and watching western shows on TV.

Light will be known for being a person who would be willing to help anyone at any time, if he could.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Stolle; niece, Nora Jurecka and husband, Kenneth; nephew, Richard Stolle; sisterin-law, Lorine Kopecky and husband, Franke; sisters-inlaw: Bernice Haney and Evelyn Williams; brothers-in-law: George Bolfik, Johnny Anders, James Anders, Edward Anders; brother-in-law, Edmund Anders, Jr. and wife, Betty; brother-in-law, Victor Anders and wife, Beverly; great nephew, Dale Jurecka and wife, Kristi; great niece, Kelly Laney and husband, Shawn; great greatnephews: Cooper Jurecka and Luke Laney; great great-niece, Grace Laney.
