Leopard Basketballers Made of the Right Stuff
I frequently – perhaps a bit too frequently –write about the specialness of life in Fayette County. Our community seems to me to have this ineffable quality that sets it apart from other, similar-sized small towns and counties. When I experience it – maybe a string quartet performance of a quality one would expect in Houston’s Museum District or a venue like the Bugle Boy that by all rights could be on Austin’s Sixth Street – I tend to want to shout about it, sorta like a gobsmacked Gomer Pyle bleating “Shazam” or a threesyllable “Gawwlee.”
My latest revelation? A “Nothing but the Net” party, a gathering for the La Grange High School boy’s basketball team at one of the player’s homes. In this case it was at the home of Asher Bradley, the 6’5” post player on the varsity team. The team members attacked the lasagna prepared by Asher’s parents like a pride of lions devouring a wounded wildebeest. Apparently basketball players have a raging metabolism.
