Bills Left Unpaid as Contractor on EMS Building Goes Belly Up

The general contractor for Fayette County’s new EMS Headquarters apparently went out of business before finishing the job.

The builder, Don Krueger Construction Company of Victoria, did not answer its phones on Friday.

An article published Wednesday in the Victoria Advocate reported that Krueger laid off employees sometime before the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The article said about 20 former Krueger workers were seeking employment assistance from Workforce Solutions of the Golden Crescent.

At the Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting on Thursday, Jan. 23, County Inspector Clint Sternadel, who has been overseeing the EMS construction job for the County, said EMS cannot occupy the building until workers repair some chips in the building’s concrete floor.

“The architect is working on a solution with the company that did that work,” Sternadel said. “Whether it’s a patch or a full repolish of the whole building, when they work out a time, that’ll allow (EMS) to occupy that building.”
