Holt
Michael Eugene “Mike” Holt, 76, of La Grange, went Home Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020. He is at peace and in a better place with Our Father. He joins many of his old friends who have gone before him.
Mike was born in Childress on Dec. 26, 1943, the son of Eugene Clark and Mary Helen (Brassfield) Holt.
Mike graduated from Permian High School in Odessa. He came from a family that loved football, his father coached football while Mike was growing up. Mike received a football scholarship to the University of Texas.
Mike married Cheryl Falke on July 27, 1968 at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Houston. They raised their family in League City.
He worked as an executive salesman for Hughes Tool Co. in Houston for 22 years. After moving to La Grange on his ranch in 1986, he raised Limousin cattle and worked for La Grange State Bank until he accepted a position as building superintendent for McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. He retired in 2011.
Mike was a member of First Presbyterian Church in La Grange. He was a devoted University of Texas Longhorn football fan and a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He loved traveling, entertaining friends and family, fishing, hunting, painting, playing bridge, and cattle ranching. Mike treasured his family and enjoyed the quiet country life in La Grange.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Holt of 51 years; daughter, Michelle Messer and husband, Jeff of La Grange; two grandchildren: Mason Lamar Messer and Madison Lynn Messer; two sisters, Syb Henson and husband Lou of Sunrise Beach; Judy Kaufman and husband, Mo of Spokane, Wash.; brother-in-law, Dan Kirklin of Taylor; five nephews: Patrick Henson and wife, Adrian; Zachary Henson and wife Christine; Mark Kirklin and wife, Sherry; John Kirklin and wife, Arlene; and niece, Dana Kirklin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Kirklin.
Memorial Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in La Grange at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
