Gus Royce Steinmann Sr., 94, passed away on Feb. 6, 2020, in Houston.

Gus "Scotty" Steinmann was born in Schulenburg to Gus and Pearl Steinmann on Aug. 25, 1925. Gus married Lucy Carolyn Stokes on Valentine's Day in 1953. They were married for 63 years until her death in 2016.

Gus worked for many years in the hotel business and served in the armed forces. In his free time, Gus enjoyed deer hunting. He hunted for years with his sons, grandchildren, and many friends until his health would no longer allow. Gus read the paper every day. That was one thing the kids (and grandkids) knew to not mess with. He enjoyed sharing his insights on health and nutrition with anyone who would listen. You would often hear him say "Eat your veggies," "I have an article you need to read," or "It’s just a suggestion..." no matter what problem you presented to him.

Gus is preceded in death by his oldest son, Gus R. Steinmann II, and his wife Carolyn.

He is survived by his son, Timothy C. Steinmann and wife Geri; daughter, Cindy Sue Balsley and husband Kirk; daughter, Lisa Ann Carpenter; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Gus is reunited with his wife, his son Gus Jr. and many others.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at the United Evangelical Swiss Alp Lutheran Church in Swiss Alp. Internment followed in the United Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Schulenburg.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange.
