County Approves Tax Guidelines, Clearing the Way for Solar Farm

Fayette County Commissioners unanimously approved guidelines for future tax abatements at a meeting last Thursday, Feb. 27. The move clears the path for Candella Renewables to apply for tax incentives to build a proposed solar farm in the Muldoon area. Candella has indicated at a previous meeting that the project is not financially viable without tax incentives from the County and Flatonia Independent School District.

The guidelines apply to any application for tax abatement a from the County, not just the Candella proposal. They stipulate a minimum $10 million investment for a new business and a minimum $2 million investment for an existing business wanting to expand. The guidelines stated that Commissioners “may consider an order calling a public hearing to consider the establishment of a reinvestment zone if needed,” and that a notice of such public hearing would be posted at least 30 days prior in the newspaper.
