La Grange ISD issued the following statement about scheduling changes amid Coronavirus concerns:

The La Grange ISD Health Services and Administration have been closely monitoring the current information on the emerging Coronavirus (COVID-19) through the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) for Fayette County this past week of Spring Break. School campuses and buses were also more deeply cleaned.

Due to the concerns regarding the Coronavirus, La Grange ISD will suspend classes for the week of March 16-20. The UIL has cancelled all extracurricular activities for a period of two weeks beginning March 16. All school related practices are cancelled as of Monday for the week of March 16-20.

According to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, at this time, there are a total of 39 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Texas, but the District is being preventative in this matter.
Based on the most current available information, health officials are recommending local communities and schools take the same necessary steps to protect against the coronavirus that we take to prevent the spread of illnesses like the seasonal flu or common cold.

Students and staff are encouraged to:
● Stay home when you are sick or running a fever (100.4 or higher). If possible, stay
home from work, school, and errands and avoid close contact with people who are sick. Must be free from fever for 24 hours without any fever reducing medicine before returning to school.
● Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs are spread this way.
● Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes or
cough/sneeze into your elbow.
● Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects that are touched frequently. Clean and
disinfect at home or school especially when someone is ill.
● Wash hands for 20 seconds. Wash hands with soap under running water. If you
cannot use water, use alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60-95% alcohol.
While these steps may seem simple, they work! Staff will continue to encourage students to wash hands and cover their cough/sneeze and custodial staff will continue to increase the cleaning of surfaces frequently used to prevent any spread of illness.

Please keep the school nurse's office informed of any illness your student may have so that we can continue to monitor for any increased illness activity.
La Grange ISD will continue to monitor the COVID-19 through the CDC, TDSHS, the Office of Emergency Management for Fayette County and collaborate with local health officials. Updated information can be found on the CDC website www.cdc.gov and the TDSHS www.dshs.state.tx.us.
Please continue to monitor our website www.lgisd.net throughout the week in case there are any changes to be announced.
