Funeral services for Hulda “Hermine” Weise, 105, of Serbin, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin.

Visitation was on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 7 a.m. until 8 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Hulda “Hermine” Weise was born on Feb. 21, 1915, in Grassyville. She was the daughter of Christian “Hermann” Wagner and Pauline “Hulda” Senff. She was named by her father, who died hours after her birth from a tragic hunting accident the previous day. There was no record of her birth. She was baptized on Feb. 22, 1915 by Reverend Herman Kilian in Grassyville. She was confirmed on March 24, 1929 by Reverend W. Mueller at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings.

At the age of 15, she moved to Austin, and became a nanny for the owner of the Cash-N-Carry stores. She was united in marriage to Ernst “Gilbert” Weise on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1937 by Reverend Herman Schmidt at St. Paul Serbin. The marriage was blessed with three children. Shortly after their marriage, Gilbert and Hermine made their home in Houston until 1951, when they moved to the family farm in Lee County. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin. She was a devoted mother and homemaker who loved gardening and canning to preserve everything that she grew. She was a wonderful cook who made delicious chicken fried foods of all kinds on a daily basis. She was also a consummate worrier, especially when it came to her children and grandchildren. She lived her life in the simplest way. The gifts she gave were handmade. Sewing, quilting, crocheting and recycling (making something out of nothing) were more than just a hobby. Instead, they were a means to provide everything her family needed.

She fell asleep in Jesus on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at the age of 105 years and 16 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gerhart and Eddie Wagner; sister, Nadine Ebner-Glass, and one grandson by marriage, Russell “Keith” Williams.

She is survived by three children, her daughter Doris, and her husband Thomas Huber of Temple, and her two sons, Roy Weise and his wife Janet of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Timothy Weise and his wife Becky of Serbin; seven grandchildren, Mollie Huber of Temple, Samuel Huber and his wife Marketa, of Prague, Czech Republic, Laura Williams of Troy, Dawn Weise of Irving, Keith Weise and his wife Leslie of East Haven, Connecticut, Zachary Weise and his wife Brooke of Snook, Whitney Faske and her husband Dustin of Giddings; eleven great-grandchildren, Anna, Caroline and Samuel Huber, Emily and Grant Williams, Wolfrik Weise, Gable and Emerson Weise, Max, Jolee and John Faske and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and acquaintances.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran School Fund, the Lutheran Hour or to the charity of one’s choice.

Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.
