Placke

Oscar Henry Placke, Jr., 88, of Giddings, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020, after a short battle with leukemia.

He was a devoted husband and father who proudly served his country and his church community. He and Texene were devout members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Oscar was born in Giddings, Texas on January 1, 1932 to Oscar Henry Placke Sr. and Flora Belle (Stork) Placke. Oscar joined the Air Force and served for four years then he joined the Army Reserves for four years. He was united in marriage to Texene Birmingham Zipprian on December 10, 1976 in Corpus Christi.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Texene Zipprian Placke of Giddings; three sons, Michael Zipprian and wife, Lisa of Porter, Richard Zipprian of Corpus Christi, and Kevin Placke of Arkansas; three daughters, Teresa Zipprian Tuma of San Antonio, Kimberly Placke and husband, Scott of Waco, and Elizabeth Placke Drosche and husband, Shane of La Grange; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; his sister, Callie Placke Roark, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family.

Due to the declaration on March 16, 2020 at 2 p.m. by city, county, and state officials barring gatherings larger than 10 people, all funeral services will be private.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
