Meals on Wheels Continuing Deliveries to Local Seniors

Combined Community Action and Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area are still continuing to make sure no seniors in our community go hungry, especially now. They are now serving approximately 140 seniors and have no plans to turn any away. “We have seen a definite increase for meal requests since the emergency began because many seniors are concerned they will not be able to get food,” said Combined Community Action Executive Director Kelly Franke.

Meals on Wheels has been working for years with a food contractor to help keep up with the higher food supply. Also during this time, while not only serving hot meals, they are providing frozen and shelf stable meals as well as specific needs. “If a senior has a specific need, our volunteers or staff can get them the needed supplies,” said Franke. “The volunteers are our line of communication to the seniors we serve. Our site managers are also calling our clients two to three days a week during this time to check up on them and to see if they have an immediate need.”
