Fayette County Suffers its First Coronavirus Death

Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau reported that Fayette County suffered its first death due to COVID-19 in a press release issued this evening, April 22:

"Fayette County is saddened to report that one of our citizens has died due to complications from the Covid-19 Coronavirus.  The gentleman, who lived in the Schulenburg area was an active member of his community and his church.  Despite following all recommendations, he contracted the disease through community spread.  After investigation, there is no additional risk to the community resulting from this case. He was hospitalized at an out-of-county hospital at the time of his passing. Please keep the family in your hearts, and prayers during this difficult time.  Remember to be vigilant in your efforts to prevent disease spread by frequently washing and sanitizing and by wearing a mask whenever it is possible to do so.  If you are over the age of 65, or have underlying medical conditions, continue to self-quarantine if at all possible. If you have any needs for assistance, please contact the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management (979) 639-1411."

Moreau also reported that two more people from Fayette County have recovered from the virus, which were confirmed by negative tests.
