State Powerlifters Stevens, Williams Our Players of The Week

Powerlifting is a sport that is becoming more popular across the globe, so La Grange High School seniors Maddie Stevens and Ja’Keia Williams decided they wanted to give it a whirl – and both qualified for the state meet this season. However that meet was cancelled because of the coronavirus.

“It’s not for everyone,” said La Grange powerlifting head coach Will Kates. “It can scare kids away. Even though you’re competing against a number and people in your weight class, it’s just you and the bar.” In their first tenure, Stevens qualified for regionals as a junior which paved the way for Williams finishing top two as a senior in her very first meet, along with qualifying for this year’s state tournament together.
