Schulenburg’s Old Fire Siren Falls Silent
Folks in Schulenburg used to not need a watch to know when to take their lunch break. For just about as long as anyone could remember, the City’s fire siren rang out every day at noon from the top of the old water tower on Wolters Avenue.
But then a few months ago, when the City decided to repaint the old water tower, inspectors recommended taking the siren down.
City Administrator Tami Blaschke-Walker said several antennas were also attached to the water tower. She said the inspectors determined that wiring for the attachments caused a trip hazard to anyone working on the tower. She said the inspectors also determined that some of the attachments were improperly mounted. Everything except one radio antenna belonging to the City was removed.
