Disaster Recovery Team Sues Homeowner for Fraud Relating to Hurricane Aid

A Hurricane Harvey victim in Schulenburg says the Fayette County Disaster Recovery Team offered to build her a house for free but is now accusing her of fraud and conspiracy after she refused to sign a mortgage agreement.

Sharelle Wright, a single mother of six who owns property at 1311 Pierce Street in Schulenburg, spoke during the public comment period at the La Grange City Council meeting on Monday, April 8.

“I have come forward in the hopes that it prevents anyone else from having to go through the nightmare that I have endured,” she told the Council.
