Giese

Cornell Wallace Giese, 81, of New Ulm, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

Cornell was born in Warda on June 19, 1937, the son of William “Willie” Charles Giese and Hattie (Moerbe) Giese. He was baptized July 4, 1937 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, and later confirmed April 6, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in La Grange.

After graduating high school, Cornell enlisted in the United States Army, and served his country proudly. Cornell married the love of his life, May Nola (Luedeker) Giese on Feb. 18, 1961 at St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Cornell and May Nola were later blessed with two children: Terry and Connie.

Cornell spent thirty years of his working career with the Highway Department specifically working in the maintenance department. He greatly enjoyed being a part of, and serving his community. Cornell enjoyed volunteering with BBQ’s at the fire department.

His hobbies included reading and spending quality time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, May Nola; one daughter, Connie Kersh and husband, Ray, of Waller; one son, Terry Giese and wife, Martha Carol of New Waverly; one sister, Barbara Gest of Nechanitz; four grandchildren: Wil Hardy and Kathryn Ann Giese; Dillon Ray and Kassie Lynn Kersh; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Cornell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margean Naumann; brother, Allen Louis; two nieces: Darla Jean Sevcik and Gidgett Dawn Naumann; and two brothers-inlaw: Louis Gest, Jr. and Wesley Naumann.

Visitation was held prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Funeral services followed at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Burial took place at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Industry concluding the service.
