Good Times for a Good Cause; Cyclists Roll Through LG for 35th Year

More than 9,000 bicycle riders pedaled into La Grange on Saturday to complete the first leg of the BP MS 150 bike ride.

Riders in the annual Houston-to-Austin bike ride throw one heck of a party at the Fayette County Fairgrounds during their stop in La Grange, as all the music, barbecue and thousands of coolers of beer attest. (Cycling apparently burns a lot of calories.) The good times are for a good cause, however. Since its inception in 1985, the BP MS 150 has raised over $270 million toward curing multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that affects a million people in the United States.

“The great thing is that we used to not talk about a cure, but now we do,” said Mindy LaBlanc, Development Director for Bike MS and the National MS Society.
