Nina Dean (Schellberg) Blaha

Nina Dean (Schellberg) Blaha, 76, of La Grange, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

Nina Dean was born in La Grange on Oct. 7, 1937, the daughter of Monroe Otto Schellberg and Lorene Minnie (Marth) Schellberg. She married Lawrence Blaha on Oct. 13, 1956 in Plum. Nina Dean worked as an LVN for twenty-five years in the Houston area hospitals. After she and Lawrence retired to La Grange, she provided home health care to area residents for another fifteen years. She is survived by daughter, Glenda Marie Blaha-Johnson and husband, Greg, of Fulshear; son, Rodney Lawrence Blaha and wife, Diana, of Houston; daughter, Darla Jean Blaha of La Grange; six sisters-in-law: Rose Minarcik of Houston; Judy Catron of Montgomery; Helen Campbell and husband, Allen, of La Grange; Katy Reaux and husband, James, of Brookshire; Nelda (Theumler) Blaha of La Grange; Carolyn “Jane” (Crozier) Nelson, of Holland; brother-in-law, Richard Cernoch of La Grange; five grandchildren: Weston Johnson and wife, Amy of Fulshear; Kyle Johnson and wife, Alex of Richmond; Austin, Tyler and Cooper Blaha of Houston; three great grandchildren: Cody, Brayden and Kenzie Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lawrence, of 57 years; four brothers-in-law: Lambert Eugene, Thomas Edward, James Henry and Daniel Frank Blaha; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Ann "Becki" Cernoch and Earlene ( Anders) Blaha, and brother-in-law, Rudy Minarcik. Visitation was held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services were held at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Plum at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery.
