Melnar
Dorothy Melnar passed peacefully to her everlasting rest in heaven on May 30, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., surrounded by her children at Parkview Manor in Weimar. She was 94 years old. Dorothy was born in Sedan on March 2, 1925 to Charles and Martha (Cernoch) Miska. She attended Sedan School. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and has lived in the Weimar area her entire life. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters, St. Ann’s and KJZT Societies.
Dorothy worked at Frank Lebeda Restaurant where she met the love of her life, Oscar Melnar, during his leave from the Army. They were married at St. Michaels Catholic Church on October 4, 1949.
After marrying Oscar, Dorothy helped out on the farm. Oscar and Dorothy moved into town and she worked at the following establishments; Kocian’s Bakery, Travelers Restaurant, M-G Poultry plant and finally helping Mrs. Andel cook and serve to Mrs. Andel’s clients.
Dorothy enjoyed many things in life. Cooking and baking for her family and friends was her specialty, always having favorites like her famous fried chicken, pies, cakes, homemade bread, strudels, cookies, and pigs in the blankets for the grandkids? She was a devoted Catholic and faithfully prayed her rosary every day. Even in the nursing home, she had a rosary in here hands. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, bingo, watching the Houston Astros, and watching her soap operas. She was pleasant and kind to everyone she met.
She is survived by daughters: Anna Cejka and husband Jimmy of Pearland and Rita Noska and husband Gary of Bellville. Sons, Michael Melnar and wife Marilyn of Jersey Village, David Melnar and wife Linda of Engle and Mark Melnar and wife Patsy of Columbus. Also surviving, her loving and giving sister Evelyn Burgess of La Grange. Dorothy leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, step nephew Michael Burgess and wife Mary of Cuero, 1 step great nephew and 1 step great niece.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Melnar; parents, Charles and Martha Miska; sister, Martha Miska; brother, Richard Miska; brother-in-law, Buck Burgess; sister-in-law Lydia Miska and 1 great grandchild and 1 step great grandchild.
A viewing was held at Hubbard Funeral Home on Sunday, June 2 between 4 and 6 p.m. A rosary was recited at St. Michaels Catholic Church on Monday, June 3 at 9 p.m. followed by a funeral mass beginning at 10 a.m. Burial was at the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons; Matthew Cejka, Mathew Melnar, Marcus Melnar, Taylor Melnar, Jeffrey Melnar, Cory Noska, and step grandson Chad Noska.
Marilyn Melnar (daughterin-law) and Michelle Melnar (granddaughter) gave the readings. The offertory gifts were presented by Sophia and Alyssa Pena and Andie Melnar (great granddaughters).
