Group Hosts 4- Day Workshop
And Then hosted a 4-day, Tuesday through Friday workshop for young adults with learning challenges at 411 Anderson St. in Schulenburg during the first week of June. The workshop was designed to teach these individuals essential life skills, focusing specifically on food safety training, health and hygiene and money management.
On day 1, workshop attendees were given a food safety training course by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agents Sally Garrett and Jenifer Boening. After completing the course, which covered everything from preventing cross-contamination to teaching proper methods of thawing, cooking, cooling and reheating, each individual received a two-year food handlers certificate. This introduction to food safety taught these young adults a beneficial skill set and helped prepare them for future opportunities, particularly employment in the food industry.
