Fun With the Cistern Bunco Bunch
CISTERN News
Last Wednesday, I enjoyed a great morning playing Bunco with a friendly bunch of ladies at the monthly Cistern Bunco game. I had no idea this group even existed here in Cistern until I was invited to come meet the ladies and talk to them about my weekly column. I haven’t played in years, so I was pretty rusty, but every one of the women made me feel right at home and patiently reminded me of the rules of the game when I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.
The group meets at Cistern Country Store the first Wednesday of every month. Registration runs from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and costs $5. They generally play 12 rounds, take a break for lunch, and play another 12 rounds. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase something there at the Cistern Store. I opted to go with the lunch special of half a Reuben sandwich with chips and a drink, while others chose corn dogs, burgers, or other menu options. Several of the ladies brought desserts to share, but it is not a requirement. After eating lunch, we enjoyed an assortment of pies, cakes and cookies before we headed back to the tables to start the second half of play. The day ended with prizes and good natured teasing between the ladies. I even won a prize for having the most “wipe outs”! Of course, this is not the prize you generally want to win, since it means I zeroed out all of the points that my partner of the moment and I had managed to accrue, but everyone likes to win, even if it’s for being a loser. We finished up at about 2:00 p.m. and although some of the ladies stayed to visit and enjoy leftover desserts, I had places to go and people to see, so I wasn’t able to stick around. I left knowing that I’d met 15 new friends and that I’d enjoyed myself tremendously.
