Schellberg
Hazel Elaine Schellberg, age 71, of Schulenburg and formerly of Sweeny, passed away on Aug. 10 in Columbus.
She was born to Lee Reece and Naomi (Mullins) Gatlin on Oct. 10, 1947 in Brownfield, Miss. She married Larry Schellberg on June 6, 1987.
In Elaine’s later years she enjoyed reading mystery books, working on puzzles watching her game shows on TV and going to the movies. Before her health declined dancing was one of her great joys along with working with her plants in the yard.
Elaine was a very talented lady with many accomplishments in her lifetime. Some of the most notable were being a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, Worthy Matron twice for the Sweeny OES along with every other office in the organization. In 2016 Elaine was honored by being asked to represent the Eastern Star as a Grand Representative at the National Convention in Casper, Wyoming. Her diabetes did not keep her from being a dedicated Volunteer Firefighter for Sweeny Fire and Rescue for nine years. Elaine obtained her Level One Certification as a Certified Firefighter, Secretary, Certification Coordinator and receiving the honor of Firefighter of the year in 1999 by her fellow firefighters. Lastly, she was an accomplished actress for the Little Theatre in Lake Jackson having held several lead roles.
Elaine’s heart was very big and open she always would go the extra step to help someone when they were in need.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, brother Herston Gatlin and husband William Lee Pipkin.
Elaine is survived by her husband Larry Schellberg of Schulenburg; daughters, Andria Crosson of San Antonio, Patricia Hicks and husband Sean of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and step-son Travis Schellberg and wife Kristy of Simonton; grandchildren Amber Crosson, Tyler Crosson, Nicole Crosson, Emily Crosson, Alexandar Hicks, Samantha Hicks, Fiona Hicks, Makenzie Schellberg, Bailey Schellberg, Sawyer Schellberg, Kinley Schellberg and Baby Boy Schellberg.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, 10 a.m. Aug. 13, 2019 at Weimar United Church of Christ, 403 W. Main Street in Weimar, with visitation at 9 a.m. A graveside service and burial will be held at Kilmichael Friendship Cemetery in Kilmichael, Miss. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers are Travis Schellberg, Chris Schellberg, Sean Hicks, Jeff Gatlin, Joey Gatlin and Michael Pasteka.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.
