Lorine (Liebscher) Sunderhuse, 93, of La Grange, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, surrounded by her family, after battling multiple chronic conditions.

Lorine was born in La Grange on March 5, 1926, the daughter of Edmund and Friedericka Liebscher. Lorine and her siblings all lived on a small farm near the Fayetteville Y about 7 miles from La Grange. Lorine went to Oldenburg School till the 6th grade.

She married Denis Sunderhuse on Feb. 20, 1949 and lived in Richmond. In 1950, they had one daughter named Nora. In 1952, Lorine and Denis separated. Lorine and Nora moved to Fayetteville. They lived with Lorine’s parents and her siblings.

There were many chores to be done on the farm. Lorine milked the cows, feed the chickens and gathered their eggs. She also helped with grinding the corn to feed the hogs and turkeys. There was cotton to be chopped and picked. Corn to be pulled and hay to be hauled. Clothes were washed with an old ringer type and then hung on a line to dry since there was no dryer. She enjoyed quilting and going to town to shop at Bill’s Dollar Store and Perry’s. Homemade ice cream was made during the hot summer days and one of her favorite foods was dry sausage. When butchering hogs, her job was to barbeque ribs and fry fresh pork for lunch which everyone enjoyed.

Her sister, Dorothy, married Otto Stolle and they had one son named, Richard. Her brother, Light, married Irene Anders. Lorine’s daughter, Nora, married Kenneth Jurecka on Oct. 3, 1971. In 1975, her first grandchild, Dale, was born. Three years later a granddaughter was born named Kelly. She enjoyed babysitting for the two of them anytime. She taught them how to play dominoes.

In 2003, Lorine moved into Monument Hill Nursing Center because of multiple medical conditions. Lorine was always a fighter and never gave up. She would always ask about what the family was doing. She enjoyed going out for a drive to visit her homestead and stopping by Dairy Queen for an ice cream. At the nursing home, she loved playing bingo and attending the monthly birthday parties.

Her first great-granddaughter, Grace May Laney, was born on Feb. 14, 2008. Her first greatgrandson, Cooper Blake Jurecka, was born on July 28, 2010. Her last great-grandson, Luke Thomas Laney, was born on Jan. 4, 2011. She thought the world of her grandkids and great-grandkids. The question was always, “How are they doing and when will they come to La Grange?” She always thought about everyone’s birthdays and holidays knowing she would get to come to Nora and Kenneth’s house for parties.

She is survived by her daughter, Nora Jurecka and husband, Kenneth; sister, Dorothy Stolle, all of La Grange; brother, Light Liebscher of Fayetteville; nephew, Richard Stolle of La Grange; grandson, Dale Jurecka and wife, Kristi; granddaughter, Kelly Laney and husband, Shawn; great-granddaughter, Grace Laney; and two great-grandsons: Luke Laney and Cooper Jurecka; all of Austin.
