Vachala

Jerry Frank Vachala, 81, of Weimar, finished his work on earth Sunday morning, Sept. 15, 2019 at home with his family.

Jerry was born in Robstown on Feb. 20, 1938, the son of Jerry Frank Sr. and Mary (Zmeskal) Vachala.

He attended and graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1957. He then joined the U.S. Navy for four years.

He married Ava June Dahse on Feb. 17, 1962. They made their home in Weimar. Jerry worked at McCall Sanders Co., and later at Rubin’s Grocery for 36 years. After retirement he had his cattle business and custom hay work.

He is survived by his wife, Ava June of 57 years, three children: daughter, Becky Berger and her husband, Kenneth; son, John Vachala; daughter, Gwen Helmcamp and her husband, Kenny; four grandchildren: Brian and Lauryn Berger; Carter and Kylie Helmcamp; one sister; half-sisters; halfbrothers; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at Weimar United Church of Christ, 403 W. Main St. Weimar, Texas, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Texas, 306 N Texana St, Hallettsville, TX 77964; Weimar United Church of Christ, 406 W. Main St. Weimar, TX 78962; or a charity of one’s choice.
