Frank Charles Chovanec, 84,passed away on Sept. 17, 2019 inHouston after a courageous battlewith prostate cancer.Frank was born in Fayettevilleon June 5, 1935. He wasthe third of five children born toCharles and Marcella Chovanec.Frank served as a Heavy WeaponsInfantryman in the US Armyfrom 1955 to 1957. Followinghonorable discharge, he movedto Houston and began a career atthe JMH Supermarket No. 5 inWest University Place where hisloyal service to the communityapproached 50 years.At the Bill Mraz Dance Hallin Houston in 1970, Frank met thelove of his life, Alice Kallus. Theymarried at Holy Rosary CatholicChurch in Hostyn on Jan. 24,1971. Alice is the daughter of thelate Richard and Frances Kallusof Hostyn.Frank is preceded in deathby his parents and his brother,Charles Chovanec.Frank is survived by hiswife, Alice, of 48 years; daughtersFrances (Tim) Miller, Rose(Mark) Michalec, Carolyn Chovanecand Marilyn (Dawlett)Dawlett; grandchildren Morgan,Julia and Jarett Michalec, Leahand Ethan Dawlett, and MatthewMiller; also survived by sistersGeorgia Kossa and Mary Mueller,and brother Edward Chovanec.Visitation and Rosary wereheld Sunday, Sept. 22 at St. Vincentde Paul Catholic Churchin Houston. Mass of ChristianBurial was celebrated on Monday,Sept. 23 at St. Vincent de PaulCatholic Church, followed by receptionand then burial at ForestPark Westheimer Cemetery inHouston.Memorial donations may besent to the Michael E. DeBakeyVA Medical Center, Houston,Texas or to the St. Vincent de PaulCatholic Church Capital Campaign.
